@dogbombballet4 years agoMcEnroe was the most exciting player to watch, ever. His talented game and personality made the game of tennis modern. Players today owe his a debt for their incomes. 33

@myohmydoyouwannasaygoodbye3 years agoThere's more amazing volleys and near-net shots in one set here than in entire modern tournament. The way and speed they move on court is also great. 18

@
@gregoryphillips39692 years agoNever heard commentators talk so much about how over the hill someone was in reference to Mcenroe. John showed that he still had the goods here. He had nothing more to prove at this point but yet he dug down deep and beat an opponent who was playing great. Cash at 27 was technically still in his physical prime but yet he was also talked about like he was a grandfather. One of Mcenroe's best efforts showing true athletic character. ...6

@
@raynerstuelgalid4 years agoAmazing actually. With such simple forehand and backhand strokes, McEnroe could win multi Grandslams. Ultimately though his lack of power strokes exposed him at Roland Garros. But, it was so close in 1984 against Lendl; I was rooting for him all the way. ...16

@gregoryphillips39694 years agoThese announcers were all over the map. They kept talking about how over the hill McEnroe was and how he was going lose to a younger man. Then when McEnroe started to take control it was all about Cash not having much match play. For 2 hours they were writing Mcenroe's epitaph. Great match that really doesn't get talked about enough with both players having their chances to win. ...2

Everyone talks about Edberg, Sampras, Mac, and Becker as great volleyers, and they were, but Pat Cash was rock solid at the net. Some of the reaching volleys he hit in this match, off of good passing attempts, were superb. He could move like a cat at that net too. What a great match. ...
