Piruz Nahâvandi, known by Muslims as Abu Lulah Firooz, was a Zoroastrian Persian soldier, who had served under the chief-commander of the Sassanid Army General Rostam Farroxzâd during the Battle of al-Qadissiyah. In 644 AD he killed the 2nd Muslim Caliph Umar Ibn Al-Khattab in a Mosque with a dagger. After killing Umar, Nahâvandi managed to take off 9 guards, who were trying to subdue him, while espaing. It is said that Piruz successfully fled to his hometown Kashan, where he safely lived out the rest of his days undercover.
