During its operation with the CIA and US Air Force, the U-2 Dragon Lady has proven to be a magnificent beast. Its clever engineering was in fact so groundbreaking it allowed the U-2 to fly higher than any aircraft had ever before, and led to the eventual designs of the SR-71 Blackbird, another fan favorite reconnaissance plane. So, how exactly was this amazing machine built? Of course, we also need to talk about the Cuban Missile Crisis, and how this single aircraft literally shaped the course of history throughout the Cold War.
