I was approached by my buddy Browntable to join an amazing collaboration of some very talented YouTubers in anticipation of the release of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. We were asked a simple question: What defines Star Wars to us? What character, moment or instance in the series makes Star Wars Star Wars? As a person who understands the impact the Star Wars franchise has had on filmmaking and pop culture, there certainly are a myriad of scenes, characters and tropes to choose from. From the groundbreaking and triumphant original trilogy, to the (ahem) interesting yet lovable prequels, and now the finality of the new trilogy, Star Wars is packed to the brim with iconic moments and archetypes that hardcore fans and casual watchers alike can relate to. With a universe so expansive, everybody will have a different moment that defines Star Wars to them, and, more importantly, everybody will have a different explanation for why that moment makes Star Wars so special.
